As for type of information that is being collected but the giant tech companies it starts with the typical information such as name, age, and gender plus even if you do not want to discuss your gender it will find out by your usage, the things you like, it pretty much knows everything. Kind of like a stalker friend that follows you through even a dark alley. Then eventually you will fill out something that will give these tech stalkers the REALLY juicy information, the gold mine of sorts, it’s the kind of device and mobile carrier you use to the websites you visit, the searches you make and your interactions with things like apps, browsers, and advertising. All this information is then sold to third party right IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES. ALL 11 giant tech companies were found to collect all this information and more at times actually about 60 different types of information commonly which this data information is commonly found in all 11-privacy policy. But who the heck reads these privacy policies anyway well one article did check and graded them as well.

Let see what these big techies have on you and how they are grades:

Overall, when it comes to “logging” the most data that price goes to Google, which is not hard to believe as their entire business model if based on dates and the best company to uphold their privacy policy is Apple, which keeps to data to uphold your account and does not share it. Twitter and Facebook (which includes Instagram) both keep much more information than they need to and definitely use it to for revenue to sell advertising. So, let’s see how they are graded and how they uphold their privacy policies.

Google Data Collection: Grade F!

We use Google so often our lives literally depend on it to a certain point. Think about it before we start any project we google things, for work, for shopping, now our email with Gmail and maps where we are going, it’s crazy!  This is not surprising they have access to so much and they all store and mine for more. Info they collect is the list is almost too long to comprehend yet it involves personal information even to the emails you write and receive; stored documents and contact inform on devices. Unique identifiers such as time and date you are on what app, carrier, and your devices to the Activity such a third-party site, phone numbers and types of calls and duration.

  • Why they collect your data. To maintains our services and personalize out content. Google also uses data to measure the performance of their ads, sharing the data with advertiser so they create more effective measurements.
  • Third Party Sharing shares your data with a bunch of third parties like advertisers, publishers, and developers and gives their partners a ton of access to collect more data from your browser and devices using cookies.

Facebook Data Collection: Grade C

They have gotten a bad wrap and one reason why Mark Z is changing everything to Meta because the platform is on the decline yet remember as they lose popularity, well then Instagram gets more popular which they still own. What is creepy is they know exactly when you are on the platform, what information and advertising to send to you and how to get you to stay. The information they collect is all personal information, email address and even payment information. Unique identifiers not really any of these and not as much as google for the activities, however they do collect you content, videos watches, and people you share with.

  • Why they collect your data: Same as above, to maintains our services personalize the content, show you think you might be interested in, and you guessed it highly targeted advertising.
  • Third Party Sharing Facebook makes a majority of all its revenue through advertisers so they provide them with a tom of your data so a business can see the demographic easily for their customers or potential customers. As well as to researchers, academics, and law enforcement agencies.

Amazon Data Collection: Grade B-

Amazon is not only selling you products and services they are also collections your data, selling it to their third-party marketplace sellers like Starbucks, Office Max and more. They do collection personal information and ever your driver license number, very little activity mostly purchase data and browsing history. Definitely your, location information and credit history.

  • Why they collect your data: It’s simple and same as above .. to improve your user experience and prevent fraud and their privacy policy is very short. The reason they are so profitable because people purchase products and services providing majority of the revenue as opposed to money from advertising like the other platforms.
  • Third Party Sharing Amazon does let you opt out of your information going to Third parties which have to do in the settings. However, they do sell the data third parties, marketplace sellers to co-branding products and more.

Apple Data Collection: Grace A+

Apple one of the best know and best designs for the large tech companies and their privacy policy confirms that. We can’t image life without Apple and how much time we spoon on their products, they collect the least amount of information. Type information they collection is much more simplified your name, phone, and emails not too much for Personal information. Then barely anything else form time, frequency, location, GPS and not much more.

  • Why they collect your data: The same .. to improve your user experience and prevent fraud and their privacy policy is very short as well.
  • Third Party Sharing Apple will never share our information with third parties for marketing purposes. It does share something, and it shares data with customer service, delivery people and any matter of legal necessity. They have to make u for none of this share .. oh, yay that why I pay more for Apple not only the incredible designs and products and yes privacy does have a value!
