Patsy’s Travel Philosophy: Embracing exploration and cultural immersion, seeing the world as a canvas for design inspiration. The year 2023 to 2024 has been incredibly inspiring and creative for Patsy, as she has traveled around the rich cultural cities of Europe. The beauty of these cities has provided her with much inspiration as she immersed herself in the cultures and drew inspiration from the architectural wonders around her.
In June last year, Patsy traveled to Amsterdam, where she met with one of our abroad designers, Keila Carias. Keila, who lives in Amsterdam, provided a unique insider’s perspective, guiding Patsy through various unique locations. The biggest highlight was the once-in-a-lifetime gathering of Vermeer paintings at the Rijksmuseum. Patsy and her daughter Giselle managed to secure the last tickets for the show, which included Vermeer’s most famous painting, “Girl with the Pearl Earring.” Given that Vermeer painted only a small oeuvre of about 35 paintings, and his works are rarely lent out, this exhibition was particularly special.
In early January this year, Patsy made her first stop in London. The capital of England, with a rich history dating back to Roman times, is home to nearly 8.9 million people and famous landmarks such as the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Big Ben. Known as the largest city in Western Europe, London’s metropolitan area is renowned for its blend of traditional and modern architecture. After her trip to London, Patsy was inspired to create new design styles and infuse her creations with the city’s timeless local culture.
In March, Patsy traveled to Barcelona, where she worked remotely while spending time with her family abroad. This experience allowed her to marvel at some of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works in person. Gaudi, an architect and designer from Spain, remains one of Spain’s most popular attractions to this day. His most notable works include Park Güell, Sagrada Família, Casa Milà, and Casa Batlló. Gaudi’s work, inspired by neo-Gothic art and Oriental techniques, helped launch a new architectural movement called Modernisme.
For us at PIL, these travels have sparked inspiration for many brands and creative projects. The details of Casa Milà and Park Güell, for instance, inspired the Seabourn Brochure and the HORST Journey to Health logo and branding.
Reflected in much of his work, Gaudi’s famous landmarks are characterized by colorful mosaics, ornate ironwork, and organic structures. Patsy’s experiences visiting these historic locations are a testament to how travel can enrich various areas of life, including the work she does at PIL Creative Group. From Vermeer’s masterpieces to Joan Miró and other amazing artists from the past, their works continue to inspire my work today. Challenging oneself to embark on journeys, such as traveling and learning about different cultures, can create endless opportunities and bring about inspiration. It is through these experiences that we can enrich ourselves with various perspectives and creative inspirations. Whether exploring cities like London with modern skyscrapers or marveling at the wonders of Barcelona, there are always opportunities to enhance your creative journey worldwide.
